Welcome! We offer handmade chainmaille jewelry in a variety of styles and colors, made primarily of anodized aluminum, and the Dragon Enchained Chainmaille Designer program. The program is available for download now.

Chainmaille Designer is a tool to help chainmaillers visualize their chainmaille inlay designs accurately. Following in the footsteps of the old Irregular Grid Painter program, and backward compatible with designs and chainmaille weaves developed for IGP, the Designer has numerous new features, including zoom and customizable palettes. It is far better than graph paper for working out original designs.

As with IGP, it runs on Windows and helps the user design chainmaille inlays. Unlike IGP,

  • It treats designs as designs instead of ordered collections of colors, remembering what weave you were using as well as who made the design, when it was made, for whom it was made, and any design notes you wish to record with the design.
  • You can specify design size in chainmaille units, instead of image pixels, or as rows & colums, inches or centimeters.
  • You can change a design's size by adding (or removing) chainmaille units from any of the edges of the design.
  • You can zoom in and out of designs as you work.
  • Using modern XML-based weave definition files, it can show the correct ring relationships on edges and in corners (as in the image to the left).
  • You can build and save palettes of colors corresponding to your actual ring colors, including by sampling colors from images, or you can use the palette of colors from The Ring Lord that is included with the program. Your designs remember what palette they were using, and automatically open the palette when you open a design.
  • You can use an image as a semi-transparent overlay, as a guide to help you when specifying the colors of the rings.
  • You can print rendered images and color count reports directly from the program.
  • ...and more stuff

Just the Brochure

Chainmaille Designer is now at version 2.1, which fixes issues with control placement under different display settings and not saving unnamed designs.

The big feature introduced in the previous version, 2.0, was to automatically color all of the rings of a design based on the colors in an overlay image, matched with the colors in a selected palette section. It also included several other features for using overlay images to aid the design process and updated the Ring Lord Colors palette file with a few new colors.

Special thanks to Brandon Cornwell, Steve Maynard, Kerri Holzhauser, and David Hagan for their bug reports!
